Ski season

A ski week from North Conway: Cranmore, Attitash, Black, Wildcat and Loon

From Kerri Rents

North Conway is one of the few New England towns with a ski area inside it. Stay a week and you can ski a different mountain most days and still be back in the village for dinner.

Cranmore, right in town

Cranmore sits on the edge of North Conway Village. The Cranmore Slopeside Condo is at Kearsarge Brook on Cranmore's South Slope, so you ski out to the lift and ski back to the building. From the village duplex (Village Home with Hot Tub #1 and Village Home with Hot Tub #2) the base area is under 20 minutes on foot. Cranmore also runs snow tubing and, the rest of the year, a mountain adventure park with a mountain coaster and a giant swing, a good half day for kids who aren't skiing.

Attitash, Black, Wildcat and King Pine

The rest of the valley's mountains are a short drive from any of Kerri's North Conway and Intervale homes:

  • Attitash in Bartlett, west on Route 302, with two connected peaks.
  • Black Mountain in Jackson, a smaller, friendly mountain close to Jackson Village.
  • Wildcat in Pinkham Notch, north on Route 16, with big views across to Mount Washington.
  • King Pine in Madison, south of Conway, a family hill for first-timers.

Cross-country skiers have miles of groomed trails around Jackson and Bartlett too. Staying all winter? The Madison Winter Home rents for the season, from December 29 into April, about 20 minutes from Cranmore and King Pine, with snowmobile and cross-country trails a short walk from the door.

Loon, from the Lincoln side

If Loon is the plan, stay in Lincoln. The Loon View Home is about five minutes from the lifts, and you can see the mountain from the hot tub. Bringing the whole crew? The Lincoln Big House has nine bedrooms. From North Conway, Loon is about an hour west over the Kancamagus Highway; check road conditions before you go in a storm.

Tip: holiday weeks and February vacation book up first. Pick your dates on any home page to see what's open.

After the lifts close

Hot tubs are waiting at both sides of the village duplex, the Country Stay and the Loon View Home, and the Cranmore condo shares a heated pool and hot tub with the building. For dinner, the restaurants and pubs on Main Street in North Conway are a short drive or walk from most of the homes.
